The 18th edition of "Maghreb Books" on 11 and 12 February in Paris





The 18th edition of "Maghreb Books" will be held on February 11 and 12 in the Hotel de Ville in Paris with some 144 authors from Algeria, France, Tunisia and Morocco, the organizers said on Friday, APS reports.

Initiated by the "Coup de Soleil" Association , this event was created in 1994 to honor annually the literature of one of the three Maghreb countries. After Tunisia in 2011 and before Algeria in 2013  it  is Moroccan literature  which will be celebrated this year.

The many guest authors will participate in dedications, literary cafés, interviews and readings. Several panels will discuss topics related to current events, history, integration or the literature of this region.

A meeting with  several reviews  will take place on February 12. This roundtable will give the floor to editors of journals who will address issues in their analysis of the Moroccan diaspora in several countries: Spain, the gateway of Europe, France, and Belgium.

Moreover, thanks to the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of national independence, tributes will dedicated, amongst others to the Algerian writer Mouloud Feraoun and his five companions killed by the OAS in March 1962, are expected to feature in this cultural event.

A tribute will also be made to Frantz Fanon prominent figure in the anti-colonial struggle in the Third World, who died in 1961, and will be led by writers and researchers, including academic Christiane Achour-Chaulet.

In addition, literary cafes will be organized around topics as diverse as the fall of Arab regimes in 2011, and the massacre of Algerians in a peaceful protest in Paris October 17, 1961 against the curfew which was imposed by the prefect Maurice Papon.

A library will also be available two days to visitors to the show and will include all books published in 2011 on the Maghreb and integration, from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

Books in Arabic, French and Tamazight will be exhibited on this occasion.

Founded in 1985, the  Coup de Soleil Association  whose activities are mainly oriented on  history, current events, the Maghreb and culture, aims to bring people from this region together to strengthen links between its peoples. It also aims to highlight the many contributions of the Maghreb and its people to culture and  French society. (
