
Besides a the lack of visibility for order books, manufacturers in the region complain of the dependence onSpanish clients who have been adversely affected by the financial crisis.A report on manufacturing activity in Tangiers was recently published by a Spanish trade union representative where such entities as AMITH and CGEM has been questioned the daily newspaper Les Echos reports. There have ben a number of strikes at textile plants recently over unpaid wages, and manufacturers have been facing rising debts.
AMITH has called on the Moroccan government to help its members find new outlets for their products, such as Northern Europe, by focusing on representation at trade shows.
In October 2011 AMITH revealed that a number of customers in Europe had cut their orders by close to 30%, largely due to the financial crisis surrounding the euro, according to industry sources.
