The inauguration of the international mission 'Africa Express' was launched in Rabat.The project consists of a train journey across the continent from Tangier to Cape Town before returning along the East African Rift.
The journey will not be an easy one because of the continental rail networks are hatched and antiquated for most of their networks , but it is intended as a challenge to be overcome, making the difficulty of its implementation in the service of public awareness and policy makers, to highlight the benefits of clean energy and that the continent has genuine strengths.
Under the slogan ' Sustainable Energy for All', the tour of Africa by train, across a route of 20,000 km and 23 countries, for 8 to 12 months, making stops every time to discuss projects specific to each region of the continent.
The project initiated by two French experts Claire Guibert and Jeremy Debreu, falls within the framework of the 'International Year of Sustainable Energy for All 2012 ', and is supported by a number of international organizations including the United Nations Development Programme for the Environment (UNDP) and the International Union of Railways (UIC)
The journey will be sanctioned by the publication of a white paper of good energy practices, at the time the trip which will be reported by shooting a documentary about the tour and its bounces to disseminate lessons to wider range.
The train travels from Morocco to Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin, Gabon, Congo, DR. Congo, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan and Egypt.
