Moroccan Turkish Businesss Council will hold its first working bilateral meeting next Wednesday in Istanbul. The Turkish Presidency of the Council wasestablished in 2004 within the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM) and Turkish Council of Foreign Economic Relations (DEIK).

The Business Council is co chaired by the Moroccan Youssef Rouissi, director of the Bank of Credit to Attijariwafa Bank, and on the Turkish side by Ms. Banu Anil, a lawyer specializing in commercial mediation , registered at the bars of Paris and Istanbul.
The main objective of the meeting next Wednesday is to stop the 2012 agenda of the Council and to strengthen coordination between members of two offices, Ms. Banu Anil told MAP in Istanbul.
She said that this first formal meeting of the Board of the Moroccan Turkish Business Council will allow both parties to get to know each other and to scan entire areas of interest to businessmen in both countries for still further cooperation and strengthened relationships between Morocco and Turkey.
In preparing for this meeting, both parties have focused on four main sectors namely tourism, automotive, food and energy, she said, adding that the of Moroccan businessmen and their Turkish counterparts need to know about these details in order to more fully exploit the business opportunities that are available to both sides.
Turkish traders are not familiar with Morocco, which may yet be a gateway for them into the African market through partnerships mutually beneficial, she said.
Ms. Banu Anil stressed the importance of communication and exchange of visits between the two sides to further strengthen economic relations between Morocco and Turkey and improve bilateral economic indicators, which are below the potential of the two country.
Turkey ranks 12th among Morocco's customers with over 300 million dollars of exports in 2010, and the 11th among the suppliers of the Kingdom with about $ 760 million of imports.
The share of trade with Turkey is only 2 pc of total transactions with the outside of Morocco and the trade balance deficit is constantly at the expense of Morocco, despite the existence of a free trade agreement between the two country.
The deficit in the trade balance between Morocco and Turkey exceeded $ 500 million in 2009 and 2010.
Furthermore, and despite the presence of Turkish investors in Morocco, particularly in the areas of construction, energy, distribution, the flow of Turkish investments in the Kingdom are very modest.
Turkey is up to 17th among foreign investors in Morocco with only 0.5 pc of total FDI received by the Kingdom.
