the business daily L'Economiste reports.
New tourism businesses are particularly suffreing from a lack of skilled personnel, such as e-tourism, golf, health and entertainment, as well as receptionists, managers of travel agencies and agents speaking different languages. Profiles are difficult to find and the hotel and agencies are struggling. If nothing is done, the deficit is likely to widen in the coming years, especially as the creation of 200,000 new beds are planned for 2020.
A goal that requires the training of 130,000 young people, is proving difficult to fulfil. There are currently some 15 educational institutions overseen by the Ministry of Tourism. Their training capacity is nearly 2,600 graduates each year in residential training, and 300 apprenticeships. There are also training courses in the private sector. Some groups such as Accor and Atlas Voyages have their own academies. The article wonders if it is enough to fill the number of trained young people that are required. Many migrate to other industries. However the Vice President of the NTF feels there is a lack ofcommunication about business offerings. There does seem to be a lack of career progression.
the article quotes the Minister of Tourism with other professionals as agreeing that the salaries in the tourism industry are not high enough particularly for young peoplejoining the industry. This is perhaps one of the key reasons why Morocco's tourism industry fails to recruit, retain and motivate enough qualified staff.More training options and the introduction of an association for young entrepreneurs in tourism are being arranged but the question remains whether it is enough.
