Casablanca: Moroccan smokers have new reason to quit tobacco cigarettes just seen their prices rise, the new prices are adopted from the first Friday in March.
In fact, it is the price of cigarettes "popular" which are being increased , while American cigarettes are spared. Thus, brown Casa cigarettes now cost 10 dirhams instead of 9.50 dirhams, Olympic Blue RS 12 dirhams instead of 11 dhs, Marquise cost 19 dirhams flexible FF, 1.5 dh more, Fortuna now costs 22 dirhams FF so two dirhams more then other brands keep the same price as Gitanes Blondes FF always sold at 25 dirhams and Marvel at 20 dirhams. American luxury cigarettes, on the other hand, have seen no increase.
The increase comes after the application of the provisions of the Finance Act 2013, the law has made a change in the tax on tobacco products, but also an increase in the minimum tax burden of ICT applied to tobacco products to 53.6% from 1 January.
